Once an applicant’s eligibility has been established, a New Beneficiary Grant of £1,000 will be allocated to each dependent. The application will then be considered on its full merit at the next Board of Trustees meeting (held quarterly in February, May, August and November) and a decision in regard to payment of support allowances and grants to beneficiaries will be made.
The Trust will backdate the weekly support allowance and grant to the date the event happened. However, please note that if you have sent in your application more than 12 months after the event, then the allowances and grant will be paid to a maximum of 12 months preceding the date of your application.
The Trust provides six different categories of grants;
• St George’s Police Children Trust Grants
Available to eligible beneficiary whilst in full time education to statutory school leaving age, or up to the end of the school year in which they turn 19 years of age.
• Higher Education Grants
Available to eligible beneficiaries for any form of further education such as a University
degree (we only support the 1st degree), HNC, HND or NVQ level 4. Available from the age of 18 for a course of up to a maximum of four years or to the age of 25.
• Ex-Gratia Grants
Children and young people in full time education and school leaving age are all eligible to
apply. Applications may include; trade tools when leaving school to start work, musical
instruments, necessary text books etc.
• Special Needs Grants
The Trust will support children who are deemed to be classed as having a special
• Driving Lesson Grants
The Trust will support young people from the age of 17 up to the age of 25 to help with the cost of learning to drive.
• Child Counselling Grants
The Trust will provide financial support to all beneficiaries who wish to access counselling
to support a young person up to the age of 25, through a bereavement or difficult time.
An annual financial circumstances review will be conducted each April and a self-assessment form must be completed by a responsible adult to ensure the continuation of any payments being made.
